Reimagine the River: Jungyoon Kim | PARKKIM, Kate Brown | Willamette Falls Trust

Waterfront Lessons from Across the World
April 10, 2026, 4-6 PM

Kate Brown served as the 38th Governor of Oregon from 2015 to 2023. Her career in public service spans more than 30 years and includes six years as Oregon Secretary of State, three terms in the Oregon Senate, and two terms in the Oregon House of Representatives. She was honored and humbled to have been selected as Willamette Falls President. Kate believes the Willamette Falls Inter-Tribal Public Access Project is a collective opportunity to both restore the land and waterways and to reconnect our communities. It’s extremely important to her to be a part of work dedicated to repairing historic wrongs and recognizing the damages of colonization.

Kate moved to Oregon from her native Minnesota to attend Lewis & Clark’s Northwestern School of Law. She earned her degree and fell in love with Oregon and the Pacific Northwest. Kate is an avid kayaker who wants Willamette Falls to be known far and wide as the eighth wonder of Oregon.

Jungyoon Kim is a landscape architect and founding principal of PARKKIM, an internationally recognized design studio based in Seoul. Her work explores the relationship between urban life, ecological systems, and cultural identity through thoughtful landscape design. Kim brings a global perspective to how cities can reconnect with water and is a curator of the current Designers of Mountain and Water exhibition at Harvard GSD. Her work is widely published and has received numerous international design awards.

Drawing from waterfront projects and landscape strategies, Jungyoon Kim reflects on how cities are rediscovering the ecological, cultural, and civic value of water. The webinar will explores how design can reconnect urban communities to rivers and coastlines while supporting resilience and public life.
